Minimally Invasive Surgery & And How Our Facilities Can Help Train Students on These Procedures

The notable benefits of minimally invasive surgery to patients include less postoperative pain, fewer operative and post-operative major complications, shortened hospital stay, faster recovery times, less scarring, less stress on the immune system, smaller incision, and for some procedures reduced operating time and reduced costs.1

Better Recovery

Many patients are concerned to have a major surgery since it involves taking time off of their daily activities. Normal surgeries involving large or deep incisions can take up to six to eight weeks to heal. This would involve the patient using all of their sick leave plus their vacation. Patients usually have to go to physical therapy which involves additional time. Patients will also experience less pain and scarring than a normal surgery. Lastly, larger incisions usually require patients to take long-term pain medication while you wait for your wound to heal. Patients will now be at less risk of developing drug addiction down the line.

Less Risk of Complications

Minimally invasive surgery results in less bleeding and shrinks surgical risks like the potential for developing an infection afterwards. Keeping the surgical site closed and performing the procedure through small incisions reduces the risk of bacteria entering your body. Additionally, there may be less medications that you would have to receive before having the procedure done. This can avoid drug-drug interactions, allergies, and other unknown complications. Lastly, there will be less injury to other organs and to the immune system.

Reduced Costs

One of the more significant benefits patients receive from selecting a minimally invasive procedure if the cost benefit. Most of these procedures can actually be classified as same day procedures, which means you can go home to recover in the same day. This results in returning home quicker and avoiding an overnight stay in the hospital. An average hospital stay can range up to $12,000 a night! You will also save costs in other ways. You may not have to pay for those extra physical therapy sessions or extra home care. You also will save by being able to go to work.

The most important point to consider after choosing minimally invasive approach is to choose the right surgeon. The surgeon must have the depth and experience to perform with these techniques. Our surgical training center is a state of the art facility for medical device companies and students. Our tools such as our robotic arms allow our students to master their skills. Our robotic arms allow the surgical area to be 10 times larger than normal vision to allow our surgeons to control the movements. As the surgeon moves their hand, wrist and fingers, the robotic arms perform the same movements, giving the surgeon much more dexterity. All are welcomed to train with us. We will advance your skills and techniques to reach the highest level of your craft.
